(Macronutrients and Micronutrients)
Foods contain macronutrients:
These are carbohydrates, proteins and fats. These are the only nutrients that give us calories.
Fiber and water are also macronutrients. They give us bulk and have many benefits but they contain NO calories.
Water does many things for us. It carries nutrients and oxygen to every part of the body; it controls the temperature of the body; it cleans the stomach and aids digestion; it removes toxins from the body.
Water does so many good things but without water we can become constipated, we can retain water, toxins that remain in our body may be reabsorbed, we may experience flu-like symptoms, we may feel fatigued… and on and on. It’s better to just drink water and avoid all these possibilities. Our goal is to drink 64 ounces of water each day.

Micronutrients are vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals. These nutrients provide no calories but are essential to our body’s processes.
