RECIPES

Recipes are fun. It’s fun to read them and exciting to make them. Not everyone has that opinion though. Some folks cringe at the thought of being in the kitchen. Either way, how many recipes do we need? There are hundreds, or even thousands of recipes. No! There must be millions. Between a focus on ingredients, kitchen appliances, flavors, textures, cultures, or other ideas, there are endless recipes. But we don’t need them all.

We need somewhere around 10 or 12 recipes to use over and over. Occasionally you might make a change but still remain with only a few “go to”, quick choices. Sauces, dips, dressings and toppings can easily change a regular meal into a new adventure.

The recipes in this collection are included because:

  • They taste good
  • There are limited ingredients
  • Ingredients are mostly whole, intact, recognizable plant foods
  • They are nutrient dense and calorie poor
  • They are forgiving. Making a mistake most likely won’t ruin the recipe
  • Many ingredients can be substituted and varied
  • Meat can be added, if desired

Repeating recipes with variations has advantages

  • Homecooked meals are the norm
  • There’s no stress about what to prepare
  • Weekly shopping is easy
  • Sauces and dressings, beans and grains, can be made on one day of the week and refrigerated until ready to use.

Making a new recipe is fun and may or may not get added to your collection. The goal is to be able to recognize when a recipe is filled with the healthiest ingredients and then create your own wonderful meals.

THE WORD ON HEALTH

With so many opinions about what the best food choices are and which ones are not so good, how can we know we are making good decisions? What can we base it on? Who can we believe? There must be a standard somewhere. Fortunately, there is, and that standard is found in the Bible. This is the book that has the best information about every area of our lives including our food.

What questions do you have?

  • What does the Bible say about food?
  • What have people eaten in biblical times and throughout the centuries?
  • Were the people healthy?
  • What information from science and research lines up with the Bible?
  • Are the rules steadfast?

We are free to eat what we want to eat. Making choices based on Biblical information or not will not change our relationship with our Father God at all. However, choosing well will lower our risk of disease and physical problems in general. Is it worth it to have fewer colds, fevers, allergies, fatigue, and other minor irritations?

Genesis 1:29

In this article, I dive into what the Bible says about food, starting with Genesis 1:29, where God gives humanity seed-bearing plants to eat. I’ve always wondered if the Bible’s advice on what to eat is still relevant today, and after looking into it, I found something interesting: both the Bible and modern science seem to point in the same direction. The more I learn, the clearer it becomes that a plant-based diet filled with fruits, vegetables, and seeds is incredibly beneficial for our health.

Genesis 3:17-19

In this article, I explore what happened after the Fall as described in Genesis 3:17-19, where Adam and Eve had to work hard for their food. It really struck me how their lives changed from easily picking fruit from trees to farming the "herbs of the field" — vegetables like lettuce, broccoli, and carrots. These plants, even though different from the seed-bearing ones mentioned earlier in Genesis, are still so beneficial for our health. But what really stood out to me is that simply adding a few vegetables to our diets isn’t enough; it’s about the whole picture and what we consistently eat.

Genesis 9:3-4

After reading Genesis 9:3-4, I found it fascinating how, after the flood, God introduced meat into the human diet but immediately gave a specific rule: we could eat animals, but not their blood. This was the first time any restrictions were placed on food, and it’s interesting to me that while there were no rules about plants, there were clear guidelines about eating meat. Noah already knew which animals were clean and unclean, which is further explained in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, showing that not all animals were meant to be consumed.

Working with "The Food Coach" has been the beginning of a life changing experience.

Learning why I should include more macro nutrients in my diet and why certain foods should be eliminated has been enlightening to me. When we know better, we can do better. I was inspired when I lost a couple of inches from my waist and noticed my clothes fit better after two weeks. Even my nails are getting the nutrients they need — they began to grow. I'm excited and I am enjoying trying new recipes and making healthy choices. I also noticed I have more energy, I am enjoying power walking & planning on becoming even more active. Movement is good and making healthy choices is a revelation — I am living life to the fullest. I know this concept of sharing this information has been orchestrated from God to "The Food Coach". I am very thankful for this divine journey.
