74 Salad Bars

Good Morning,

Salad bars are great and many people go to them thinking they are eating a low calorie meal and consequently they will lose weight. I remember thinking that many years ago when I, who needed to lose weight, went to lunch with my overweight friend. Nevertheless, they are a great choice if you know what you re choosing. Here is a list of the average amount of fat and calories you will find in the various offerings on the salad bar. This is very revealing but YOU may be savvy enough that you won’t be shocked.

Notice the quantities. A 1/3 cup of potato salad or coleslaw is not very much; neither is 2 tablespoons of cheddar cheese. The same can be said for 1/3 cup of pineapple but if you overdo that one you still have not eaten many calories.

Here’s the bottom line… you could eat every plant food on the salad bar and never gain weight. Just ask for a fork and a chair so you can sit right at the salad bar; there’s no sense in carrying it to a table first. J But beware of the stuff in the lower half of this list… 2 tablespoons of bleu cheese dressing is 198 calories??? Oh wow! I’ve seen people ladle that stuff on their salad. 600 calories of dressing will destroy your low cal salad to say nothing of your attempts to lose weight. Lemons, Balsamic vinegar and the juicy fruits and vegetables will make a great dressing for your low calorie, high nutrient salad. So… beware. Salad bars are wonderful but we need to know what to choose and I’m counting on you to…
