107 Berries

Good Morning,

I really like berries… do you? How valuable do you think they could possibly be?

We hear a lot about special berries from exotic places that are more nutritious than those regular blueberries and strawberries we can get every day at the local grocery store. What about those?

Some research was done at Ohio State University to test the ability of whole berries in preventing the development of esophageal cancer in rodents. (I wonder if the rodents appreciate that). The researcher (Dr. Gary Stoner) used whole foods instead of looking for a specific nutrient. Hmmm… this is a smart researcher. The team of researchers took seven types of berries including regular blueberries, strawberries and red raspberries as well as noni, acai and wolfberries (all of which are supposed to be superior), freeze-dried the berries and fed them to the rodents.

The result was that all seven berries were equally effective! Wow! That’s very interesting. It turns out that each berry has unique properties that help to prevent disease and keep us healthy. That’s exciting because berries taste great. So if they were equally effective and they are all full of nutrients, do we need to buy expensive juices? (Hint: no, we don’t!)

God has created a delicious “pharmacy” for us to enjoy and to help us stay full of health. It’s important to eat a variety of God’s whole foods. Think about all the plant foods that you eat… not just one or two. We need to eat a variety of plant foods; that’s how we remain healthy, not by taking isolated supplements or focusing on some exotic food. Why would God create His best food for us and then hide it in some jungle or high in the mountains? All of His foods are full of nutrients; we simply need to eat them the way they were created. So instead of buying some expensive juice or isolated vitamins, get some berries at your favorite grocery store and enjoy continued good health as well as good taste.
