162 Side Effects

Side effects! We hear about the side effects at the end of every advertisement for over the counter drugs (OTC) and for prescription drugs as well. Have you noticed that some of them are pretty awful? So… you get a little shy when you are in a crowd and can’t bring yourself to say “hello” to anyone or you have some trouble sleeping when you are working the night shift. Well… those are certainly BIG problems that are obviously sicknesses that need to be treated with medication… and probably for the rest of your life. (In case you cannot tell… I am being facetious.)

To overcome these and other “serious” problems you can take a drug that might possibly help your situation but the side effects will causediarrhea; dizziness; dry mouth; headache; nausea; stomach pain or upset; tiredness; trouble sleeping”. Wow!

In addition we hear:

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using (this drug):

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty swallowing or breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue; unusual hoarseness); blisters on the inside of the eyes, nose, or mouth; chest pain; dark urine; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or sore throat; increased urination; mental or mood changes (eg, aggression, agitation, anxiety, depression, exaggerated sense of well-being, hallucinations, irritability, nervousness); red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; shortness of breath; suicidal thoughts (suicidal thoughts? yikes!) or actions; swelling of the legs; unusual bruising or bleeding; vomiting; weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur.”  (Emphasis mine)

I heard this drug advertised on the radio and thought it was a “spoof” made by the radio show. After a while I realized that it was a real ad!! What a shock! I hope you haven’t asked your doctor for this one. This is definitely the time to…
