Psalm 119:127-128

“Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path” (Psalm 119:127-128 NIV).

The proof of how much we value the Word of God is in how much time we spend reading it, memorizing it, meditating on it, speaking it and obeying it. Understanding the value of the Bible will give us a desire to do what it says and we will hate every transgression, every false way, every sin. The commands of God include all the law, even the dietary law. “I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right” (Psalm 119:128 KJV).

All of God’s precepts are right. Everyone agrees on moral law (adultery is wrong, stealing is wrong, lying is wrong), sanitation laws (separate sewage from your dwelling place, wash your hands in running water) and judicial law (appoint judges over 10s and over 100s) but dietary law is usually ignored by most of us. There is agreement about smoking being a problem and drinking too much alcohol being a problem but eating the wrong foods and eating foods in excess is not seen as a problem even though these things, not just the tobacco and alcohol, can cause serious physical problems.

Messages about these detrimental things are often brought to us, as advertisements, by famous people. But no matter how famous or influential a person is in the world, his opinion does not override God’s Word. Over and over the Bible has been proven to be accurate in every detail. For example, there was a time when most people thought the earth was flat but the Bible always stated that it is a circle (Isaiah 40:22). The opinions of politicians, movie stars, doctors, sports figures, journalists, lawyers and others are never greater than God’s Word. It’s up to us to go to the Bible and find out for ourselves what it says about a subject.

“Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise” (Proverbs 19:20 NIV). If we learn to hear God’s Word and place it above man’s thoughts and words it will have an affect us and the outcome will be positive. If we follow God’s sanitation laws and dietary laws we will be healthy. If we follow His moral law we will be healthy, happy, equipped (provided for) and blessed in every way. In order to appreciate anything that God has for us in this world we must have a body that is healthy, strong and mentally alert. Our body is the only way we can operate in this world so it is to our advantage to work with it and help it to function optimally. This is what it means to be in the will of God; He wants us healthy and He wants us to love His commands and hate every wrong path (Psalm 119:128).

The respect of God’s authority is the highest form of faith. Jesus heard the faith of the centurion, He marveled and said, “I have not found so great faith” (Matthew 8:10 KJV). Faith and authority go hand in hand. God’s original intent from the time of the garden was for us to have authority and faith. When we obey the Word of God we often look odd to the world. But we should look “odd”; we should be healthier than the world, wealthier than the world and blessed in every way. When we are always well, have no pains, take no medication and don’t need a doctor we look very odd and in that respect, we want to look odd.
